About The Author

Michael G Bergen is a British-born Canadian author of historical fiction, memoirs and essays who lived and worked in eight cities in five countries on three continents and sailed the North Atlantic, Mediterranean and Baltic as a sailor with the Royal Canadian Navy during the Cold War. Bergen also experienced the Cold War border of the divided Germany, the Berlin Wall and the Soviet-backed Anti-apartheid Liberation Struggle in South Africa. He studied economics at Concordia University in Montreal and is reasonably fluent in three languages but has forgotten a fourth. Michael G worked in high-technology software development during his career and has had many interests and hobbies. His knowledge spans information technology, geography, geology, paleontology, paleoanthropology, western history and aspects of art, architecture, antiquity and twentieth-century conflicts.

A nature lover, Michael G enjoyed and spent much time sailing and fishing on the St Lawrence River, both coasts of Canada, the boreal forests of Northern Ontario, the Florida Keys, Shenandoah River, above the Arctic Circle in Norway, Lake Victoria, Kenya, South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Mauritius and the Skeleton Coast of Namibia. He has visited more than 45 countries, 300 cities and countless towns, villages and historic sites worldwide. He has contemplated the quiet expanses of the Laurentian Mountains of Canada, the Alps of Switzerland, Austria, Italy and Slovenia, the Pyrenees, and the Drakensberg Mountains of Southern Africa. He has also explored many game reserves throughout Africa.

History has long been the author’s passion, leading him to explore his family heritage. Years of extensive research culminated in his writing a series of four books based on his ancestors’ lives, friends, and families in the turbulent years of the 20th century.
